Online Driver Improvement Course

This course is the online equivalent of the eight-hour driver improvement course that consists of 11 modules and a final exam. Upon successful completion of the online course, you may be eligible to receive up to 5 safe driving points.

Online Course Ineligibility

You may not take an online driver improvement course if:

  • You are under age 20
  • You were convicted of the traffic violation when you were under the age of 20
  • You are required to attend a commercial driver improvement course

If any of these conditions apply, you are not eligible to take an online driver improvement course to satisfy a DMV requirement. Instead, you must satisfactorily complete a driver improvement course that provides classroom instruction.

PLEASE NOTE: In order to benefit from the course, you must be able to work independently and be comfortable using a computer.

Acceptance by the Court

Your court may or may not accept the Certificate of Completion. It is your responsibility to contact the court and determine if your court will accept a computer-based course from an online traffic school. 

Instructions for Taking the Online Course

  • To register for the online driver improvement course, CLICK HERE or on the link below in the red rectangle.

    • ​Proceed with registration as shown on the website. A Spanish version of the online course is available to be selected when completing registration.

  • The course fee can be paid online or upon arrival at the school to take the final exam.

  • The course can be completed at your own pace, using any computer with an internet connection.
    • You have the ability to save your progress if at any point you need to log-out of the site.
    • User profiles will only be kept for one year, be sure to complete the course in a timely manner before all progress is lost.
  • When the student has completed the course they will receive a directive to come to our school to take the final exam. The student will need to contact the school to schedule a time to take the final exam.
  • Our school will provide the computer needed to complete the exam. The student takes the final examination online in the presence of the licensed instructor. Upon successful completion of the final exam the student will receive the course completion certificate. If the student fails the examination, the student will be allowed to review any section of the completed course to prepare to take the examination again.

Testing Procedures

Student must schedule a time to take the test prior to arrival

On the day of testing, you must bring the following to the test site:

  • Photo identification (DMV issued identification card, school issued identification card, valid passport or military identification)
  • Payment (if not completed online)
  • The online driver training school will provide a computer for testing

Open book testing is not allowed. You will receive your Certificate of Completion immediately after you have passed the exam, no mailing necessary. A minimum score of 80% is needed to pass the exam. The final exam is 50 questions and multiple choice.

If you fail the final exam, you will be allowed to review any section of the completed course to prepare to take the examination again. Per Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles regulations, you can only take the final exam once per calendar day.​
