A: The purpose of the escort vehicle and driver training is to enhance the safety of moving over-dimensional loads by highway and to reduce delays and inconveniences to the general flow of traffic. Escort drivers have specific tasks to perform during each phase of the over-dimensional load movement.

A: The price for this course is $110.

Q: What is needed to be eligible for this course?

A: On January 1, 2014, the Virginia General Assembly enacted a law requiring individuals wanting to perform the duties of an escort vehicle driver to complete an escort vehicle driver training course. Successful completion of this training course is required prior to taking an escort vehicle driver certification knowledge test at any Virginia DMV customer service center.

To qualify for Virginia escort vehicle driver certification, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Hold a valid driver's license
  • Successfully complete an 8-hour escort vehicle driver certification training course approved by Virginia DMV​

Q: What should I bring to class?

A: You need to bring a driver's license. 

You can bring any drinks or snacks you'd like to class. We will take a 30-minute lunch break. We have a mini-fridge and microwave if you decide to pack a lunch.

Q: When is class scheduled?

A: On account of low need of this class, classes are scheduled as we receive registration or interest.
