Behind-the-Wheel Course


Behind-the-Wheel Courses are held throughout the year. As required by the Virginia DMV, the course consists of 7 days of training and a road skills test. You must present your learner's permit, submit your 45-hour driving log and submit your driver education classroom course completion certificate to be eligible for the course.

One-on-One Driver Training Classes


One-on-One Driver Training Classes are held throughout the year. Classes with no other students often move at a pace decided by the student and their needs. The student has the undivided attention of the instructor. This means more opportunity to engage in real communication, more feedback and better understanding of the student's needs.

Driver Improvement Course


DMV & AAA approved 8-hour course. This course meets the requirement for licensed drivers, CDL included, who received a ticket, a letter from the DMV or would like to volunteer to earn safe driving points.

  • students will receive a certificate at the end of the class.

  • your completion of the course will be electronically submitted to the DMV after class.

Online Driver Improvement Course


DMV approved online equivalent of the 8-hour course. Adults, age 20 and older, are eligible to take the course. The course consists of 11 levels and a final exam that must be completed at the school.

  • students will receive a certificate after successfully completing the final exam.

  • your completion of the course will be electronically submitted to the DMV after completing the final exam.

Driver Education Course


A classroom course that prepares a driver to obtain a learner's permit or driver's license. The course can be completed before getting a learner's permit, however, it is not required prior to taking the DMV test. The course is required for students who are trying to get a driver's license while under age 18. Topics include traffic laws and signs, alcohol and drug impairment and road conditions. The class is 30 hours of instruction completed in 36 fifty-minute classroom periods.

Online Driver Education Course


DMV approved online equivalent of the 30-hour classroom course. Course is available to adults and juveniles. Juveniles must be at least 15 years and 6 months old to be eligible for the course.


In order to benefit from the course, you must be able to work independently and be comfortable with using a computer.

Driver's Manual Course (Three Test Failure)


If you have failed the knowledge test three times, you must complete an 8-hour course to be able to retake the test. When you have successfully completed the course, you will be able to take the test as many times as needed to pass. If you are under age 18, you must provide a driver education classroom course certificate to be eligible for this course.

Re-examination Course (Three Test Failure)


If you failed the knowledge test three times, and you are under age 18, you must complete a 30-hour course to be able to retake the test. When you have successfully completed the course, you will be able to take the test as many times as needed to pass. If you present a driver education classroom course certificate, you are eligible to take the 8-hour course, Driver's Manual Course.

Behind-the-Wheel Re-examination Course (Three Test Failure)


If you have failed the road skills test three times at a Customer Service Center, you must re-take the in-vehicle component of the driver education program, behind-the-wheel.

  • The juvenile course consists of 14 fifty-minute periods of in-vehicle instruction (7 fifty-minute periods of driving and 7 fifty-minute periods of observation), DMV will administer the road skills test.
  • The adult course consists of 7 fifty-minute periods of in-vehicle instruction (only driving), DMV will administer the road skills test.

Escort Vehicle Driver Certification Training


Classroom training and certification is required for drivers who provide escort driving for certain over-dimensional or overweight loads. The purpose of this course is to provide information including rules and regulations, safety suggestions, enhance the safety of moving over-dimensional loads by highway and to reduce delays and inconveniences to the general flow of traffic.

Driver's Manual Course Train-the-Trainer


The Driver's Manual Course is a required course for failing the knowledge or renewal test three times. The train-the-trainer course consists of 8 hours of classroom instruction based on the Virginia Driver's Manual. This course would certify the individual instructor for one year.


Materials provided to instructors: Virginia driver's manual, course instructor manual, course student manual and a PowerPoint presentation.


As Virginia regulations and laws are changed, we will provide updated materials at least once a year or more when necessary.
